I had the pleasure of photographing new face Tehya from JAG Models. She's also signed in LA to my friends over at Natural Model Management so it was really wonderful to photograph someone from two agencies that I absolutely love!
Tehya has such a unique and beautiful look that I was excited to capture and had Andrew Sotomayor for makeup and Rebecca Deamer on hair for this shoot. This was such a great team for this shoot. Andrew does such a good job with creative & colorful makeup looks and Rebecca knows how to compliment those with effortless, beautiful hair.
This shoot was a personal test shoot and I wanted to try out some creative (yet still commercial) makeup looks. I'm at a point in my career where I feel confident with creating clean, commercial images on a neutral background. This means that any shoot I put together I start to add on additional elements like gelled lights, a different backdrop color, more shadows, etc. Every shoot serves its purpose and the images should be something that myself and my team are proud of. For me it's really important to shoot personal work during my days off from clients because it's a way for me to find new styles and ways of thinking about shoots. It also keeps my creative energy flowing which always attracts new opportunities my way!
Tehya was so fun to shoot! She's finishing up her last year in high school and has such a good head on her shoulders about the modeling industry. She moves great in front of the camera and has a lot of wonderful quirky poses and movements that worked well with our beauty looks!
For the first look I always keep things simple - it's easier to build off of but I also use the simple looks to gauge how well the model is moving and interacting with me in the shoot. With creative and glam beauty looks you need to have a model that's able to move her face to best suit the hair and makeup.
This second look was really interesting and after I got some shots on the blue backdrop we had been using, I decided to change my lighting; which prompted Andrew to add something else onto the makeup.
For our final look (which is my personal favorite) we went total glitter glam! I wanted vibrant colors and sparkle. We were talking about Tehya's senior prom which was that weekend and I was inspired by 80's teen dream proms for our final look. I added in some purple backlight to give it a subtle prom/club look and kept the light to be soft and reflective on Tehya's glowing skin.
