I had the pleasure of photographing Kylie Lauren Frink at Wilhelmina NYC. You may recognize Kylie from the 16th Season of Project Runway, which was a game-changing season due to its diverse, size-inclusive casting of models. Kylie wanted to showcase her short hair and we played with some colorful backdrops and beauty looks. I had Adriana Andaluz for makeup and hair, which I was very excited about. Adriana was one of the first artists I worked with when I moved to NYC so it was a wonderful reunion shoot! Here are some of our favorite shots from this shoot.
For model portfolios, I always like to start clean and simple and then play around. Unless we have a set concept for a shoot or are shooting a story, it's best to get fresh and clean shots they can add into their books… then we get creative! Kylie needed more shots with her fresh chopped hair so this is the direction we went! I'm happy we got to play with color too.
The image below is my favorite shot of the shoot. When we finished the shoot, I had a final idea to use a prop for a beauty shot - I didn't have much but some Cuties Mandarin Oranges. I had a lot of success with those fun lemon beauty shots of Riley. We tried unpeeled, peeled, slices, etc. When shooting, I wasn't really feeling it; I felt like the size of the orange wasn't translating well and I didn't want to be one of those photographers that just shoots curvy models with food. So we ended the shoot. When I was looking through images I found a couple shots that expressed the fun & fresh vibe I was looking for. Sometimes we need to take some time away from our work and come back to it. Now this is one of my favorite new shots and I'm excited to shoot more fun beauty work!!
